Your Habit Tracker Does Not Know Why You Skipped
A checkbox records that a day was missed. It has no idea the week was brutal, which is the only interesting part.
A habit tracker marks a day done or not done. That is the whole model, and it treats every missed day as identical, which they are obviously not.
Context is the missing half
Missing the gym on an ordinary Tuesday and missing it on the day before a launch are different events. One is drift and the other is a reasonable decision. A calendar of checkboxes cannot tell them apart because it can only see the checkbox.
What changes when it can see the week
Because habits sit next to the calendar and the sleep and everything else, a slip can be read properly. Sometimes the right response is a nudge. Sometimes it is to move the sessions to walks and leave you alone.
Encouragement beats shame
Nothing kills a streak faster than an app that makes you feel bad about it. The cast are built to point out a slip and offer a way back, in a voice you do not mind hearing from.
